I am very excited about this blog as I have wanted to start one, but did not know how to go about it. Then the University of Northern Colorado offered a course called Blogging for Journalists, which teaches how to blog. I jumped at the chance! So now I am using this course to get my blog off and running. While the course will only last four weeks, this blog will continue.
Each of us is on our own spiritual path. I am creating this blog with the hopes that by sharing what I have learned through my spiritual lessons, I might help others on their own path.
This topic has become very important to me over the last five years. I have had problems with anxiety over the years. It wasn’t until I started unknowingly discovering my spiritual path that I started to make progress with reducing my anxiety. Yes, my discovery started accidently – more on that another day. If anything I can say here helps even one person, this blog is worth my time and effort. Please let me know your thoughts and perspectives during this journey.
Hi Lisa, My name is Mia and I am a student in JMC 408 as well. The topic of your blog is really interesting. I think it’s important for everyone to get in touch with his or her spiritual side at some point in their lives. For me, the thing that makes spirituality so interesting is that it comes in many different forms. I know that I have had a lot of problems with anxiety and never thought that spirituality might help. What advice do you have for reducing anxiety?
ReplyDeleteHi Mia! Good to hear from you. For me it’s been a slow process - it didn’t happen overnight. But then again, I’m a stubborn creature and don’t like to ‘have to do’ stuff. When I do what I should do, my anxiety issues are rare now. I didn’t start learning about this until I was…well, I won’t say what age. I’ll just say I wish I had started at your age. As it’s a complex subject, I will be sharing more information in future blogs.
ReplyDeleteAs each person is different, what works for me may or may not work for you. However, I will share what I learned and you can check them out to see if they work for you. Some of the things may not seem 'spiritual' on the surface, but for me they all go together (I’ll explain that in a future blog).
As each person is different, unfortunately you need to find what works for you. For me, the first thing is to take proper care of myself (I'm still struggling with this one). I find that at the bare minimum, I get to make sure I get enough sleep and meditate on a regular basis. I will be discussing meditation in a future blog.
If you need something that can help immediately, I’d suggest learning how to do abdominal breathing (I learned through meditation). Now when I’m in a stressful situation, I focus on doing deep abdominal breathing.
Hope this helps some!
I'm excited to hear more about you and your path. I struggle with anxiety too. Meditation really helps me. I've learned a lot about Buddism and Hinduism, and how they practice medation and body and mind connection,it's all very interesting. Anyway, I'm excited to follow your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, My name is Kelly and I am in your JMC 408 class. I think your blog topic is really interesting! I grew up in a family that stressed christianity as the only form of spirituality and I always felt like there had to be something else. I'm really looking forward to reading your blog and learning about other forms of spirituality.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advise, Lisa. My mom is really into meditation and I have seen how well it helps her manage her stress and anxiety. Breathing is a great idea. I practice yoga and breathing is really essential when moving through postures. It's hard to focus on keeping yourself healthy as a college student. I find that to be one of the more challenging things in my life right now. I will definitely keep your advice in mind from now on. Thanks!
